Blind Side And Knowing Your People
There is a small detail in The Blind Side that is often overlooked in the movie — one that tells us something critically important about leadership. Based on a true story, the movie describes how Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy adopt Michael Oher, a 17-year-old with a rough, tough background growing up in foster homes in Memphis (where the story takes place). Through the efforts of the father of one of Michael’s friends, Michael and his friend are accepted into a private high school, mostly because of the coach’s interest in Michael’s very evident athletic prowess (especially in football). The Tuohy’s two children go to the same school, and their son, SJ, befriends Michael.
